Scottish Scout Conference & Youth Summit

Four Explorer Scouts from the Area attended the Scottish Scout Conference in Aviemore (23 - 25th November) where for the first time a Youth Summit was held.

Ross Christie, Grant Collier, Andrew Melville and Callum Kerr acted as Young Spokespeople for the Area, and did an outstanding job. The picture shows them dressed to thrill prior to the Centenary Scout Ball. In the coming months they will be asked to look at the future of Scouting in West Lothian and how current resources can be utilised to provide the best possible Scouting experience. It is hoped that others will also join them as Young Spokepersons in the future ensuring that West Lothian continues to listen to the needs of its Youth Membership.

Whilst some were kept busy in Aviemore others were equally as busy in London performing in front of 30,000 people at the O2 Arena (formerly the Millennium Dome). Sam Beard and Murray Horn had been selcted to represent the area and fly our Centenary Flags. Both boys had a fantastic weekend meeting the stars and visiting the London Eye. Sam and Murray were accompanied by Murray's dad, Douglas Horn (District Explorer Scout Commissioner) and the rest of his family. Although tired after completing two performances on Saturday this was an experience of a lifetime and one that will not be forgotten for a long time.
